Paul Girt
Parts Manager for Porsche Centre Melbourne
Born - Chelsea, Victoria
I Live in Edithvale, Victoria and have ten years of service in the motor industry, starting as an apprentice and now running Australian Largest Porsche Parts Department, also highly involved in Porsche Centre Melbourne’s “Racesport†Department and program.
My first involvement in motorsport was racing go karts from the age of about 12, racing in various categories’s and class across Victoria and achieving some great results State Championships and titles.
In the part 5-6 years I have been campaigning in a number of different categories and class’s of motorsport. From 2000 to 2004 I drove the Porsche Centre Melbourne factory owned and prepared 911 3.6ltr Carrera in several Grand Prix Rally’s and Dutton rally’s, winning various classes and categories. 2003 and 2004 driving the same car I competed in the “Porsche Mt Buller Sprintâ€, (“Targa style eventâ€), placing a strong 3rd in category and 17th outright.
As a part of the Porsche Racesport program our dealership entered teams in the 2000-2005 Winton 6 hour Relay race with unprecedented success. I have driven in the event 6 times and have placed 1st outright in 4 of the 6 race’s and 3rd in the other.
In 2002 I was asked to Navigate in Targa Tasmania for Michael Browning, ( Motoring Journalist, and author of “Ten year of Targa Tasmaniaâ€). It was my first event as a Navigator and after 5 days of intenseness competition we finished 1st in category 7SS and Class, by a mere 3 seconds and finished 32nd outright.
In 2005 Duane Rodgers, a Winton 6 hour team mate and friend asked if I would navigate in Targa Tasmania. Again, we achieved an outstanding result, winning category and class 7ss and finishing 34th outright.
Aside from my involvement with “Porsche Racesport†and road rally/Targa events I have raced a number of other categories. In 2004-2005 I campaigned a 2004 spec Formula Vee 1200 in the Victoria State Circuit Racing Championship, finishing in the top ten at every meeting entered.
2006 is a new chapter in motorsport for me, purchasing a Mygale SJ97 Formula Ford which I will debut at Winton at the Avesco V8 Supercar Championship round in early June.
