Day 1 - Leg 1

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

Finally we get to spend a full day in the car. Arriving at 7:30am we collect final photos before the days proceedings.

The day consists of a number of stages with the morning used to bed in brakes, Drivers and Navigators. The Base time for the morning stages were achieveable by all but the absolute slowest (or to Adventureous). Lunch was spent at Devonport, and the afternoon stages were serious. Targa has started, or maybe not, we still have to wait on a number of stages to allow for the processing of 250 cars.

Lunch at Devonpart

By end of day we were travelling well, but this is only day one, so no holding of the breath yet.

Finally back to Servicing where the technicians have a limited time to check and organise each of the cars in the alloted time.

As normal this is targa time … time spent waiting for something to happen !!!

T-1 “Start and Prologue”

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Today we get to play with the cars. It might only be for 3 minutes, but at least we have started.

Start of the Event at the County Club in Launceston

Atter the official start we travelled to Georgetown for the Prologue which seeds the cars and sorts out the starting order for Wednesday “Day 1″

After many hours of waiting we were off and by the end of this run we were again first in class and category. Not much can be taken from these results as they don’t account for anything other than the start order. At least the car has had a run, and we have had a chance to check the tyres, brakes and Navigator calls.

Group of cars at prologue including a couple of other porsches sporting DBYD Stickers we have placed for our sponsors.

We all have alot of time to chat and share the experiences of targa

Following the Prologue we are back to the Silverdome again, but tomorrow is a different day as tomorrow is Day 1. Finally the serious stages start and Targa begins ….

T-2 “Driver Briefings”

Monday, April 24th, 2006

Welcome Party last night which gave us a chance to meet old acquaintances.

Welcome party presentation
Fortunately we didn’t party all night, and we were up and breakfasting around 9:00am. Up to the Silverdome to meet the service crew and complete a small list of jobs on the car including, Targa number plate fitment, intercom testing and a final polish of the car.

Off to the Country Club for drivers briefing. The Medical, Police and Targa officials attempt to scare the 132 first time competitors with their initial disclosure that “Motorsport is dangerous, destroys cars and kills people”. (Very sobering). Then the mandatory, no alcohol or drugs message, and finally don’t speed on non competition stages.

Tonight we rest for the prologue in Georgetown, with a slight delay of the targa event to respect the Anzac day activities.
